Dabchick.

Little Grebe (Tachybaptus ruficollis) also known as the 'Dabchick'. Our smallest grebe with a very dumpy body, short neck, a tiny straight bill and in breeding plumage the yellow gape spot is usually visible at some distance. In all plumages they ususally display a distinctive 'powder-puff' rear end but this adult decided to show me more than I bargained for!   FAB.

Taken at Barnes WWT - ISO 200; F/10; 1/400 @ 260mm and cropped.

  1. Oh I do love this images, the duck is Gorgeous too~ I am traveling west for 2 weeks and I am hoping that my laptop will not give me the same terrible times the desktop has been presenting the past couple of weeks. I would love to be able to keep up. Take care~ Mary

  13. For some reason could not enter comments on your older posts and I'm catching up. So, here goes: love the Fallow deer. I've only ever seen on in captivity. LOVE LOVE the GBH- excellent detail on that. Mine are never that good. Same can be said of you assorted dragonflies: mine are never that sharp. Gorgeous work, my friend. And your butterflies.......well, I think that's my cue to crawl under a rock and go away now. Excellent photos. Hope this finds you well. Oh yes, nearly forgot, I like the wallpaper on your blog, too.
