Red Deer.

During a late December visit to Richmond Park I was fortunate to be able to get reasonably close to a small group of Red Deer (Cervus elaphus) stags who were not disturbed by the 'watchers' presence.

This individual was not the oldest in this pack as he only has 8 tines.

Finally, he gave me a sign to say 'that's enough'!

  1. Awesome, they are beautiful! Looks a bit like an Elk, only maybe a wee bit smaller. Lovely!

  3. wow!!! You really got close... I've been close to a female, but never a male. Must feel pretty good to stand so close. Beautiful photos.......I love them.

  4. Hi Kelly. This was a relative youngster, I still have some pics of the bigger boys to post when things get slack over here. All the group were fairly docile after the 'rut'...worn out I presume!

  5. Beautiful shots Frank. Red deer certainly do resemble our North American elk.
